Leaving in 2 Days
I don't exactly feel in the right mood, to be going to Mexico City. It seems dumb saying this because what exactly is the right mood to begin what is going to be a very difficult, but rewarding year. I guess I feel like I should be either really excited or really scared, but I am neither. I am ready to start what I've been preparing to do for a while. I am scared that things are going to be very difficult there. Overall, though I just feel like I'm going through my days normally. My main signs of nervousness are I've been waking up at 3:30 in the morning for the past 3 days.
I've been getting some stuff together. I made a little trip to Walmart and spent too much money. How does that stuff add up. I've heard a few weird things lately about Walmart/Target. I'm imagining Target?? going up close to our house in Houston. Now that would be weird. I also think we might have pulled a Somali Bantu and "stolen" a shopping cart. We would have taken it back though.... Also, apparently Walmart is going to be entering Colombia in about a years time... Walmart has nothing on Carrefour!! Yes, Carrefour is in Colombia and I must say, its quite beautiful. Also, I heard John Edwards say that Walmart actually support raising the minimum wage because they already pay over the minimum wage (not that much Walmart) and a higher minimum wage would help their customers.... John Edwards also said that its healthcare costs that really hurt small businesses, not a higher minimum wage. SOOOOOOOOOO if we could take care of that. You know what, small businesses usually pay above the min wage anyway. Its CORPORATIONS like Sodexho Marriott that don't. The only time I have ever been paid min wage is working at ZIA Juice company.
I really like John Edwards. Remember how his wife told those rude Republican boys to mind their manners at USC. That was awesome!!
Anyway back to Mexico. So, I've got a bunch of cosmetic stuff that I'm sure I can buy in Mexico, but I just dont want to yet. I also currently have 4 books that I am bringing. 3 of them are Colombian (thanks to Juan Mi). 100 Years of Solitude, Rosario Tijeras, Our Lady of the Assasins, and then my brother is bringing me Wicked. The 2 in the middle are quite short, so I hope this will last me until I can find a new supply. I think it will save my sanity to be able to read at night before going to bed. (and to pray too of course). It'll be interesting to see how my schedule turns out.
I've also gotten a few little things for potential english classes. I got Madagascar (it has spanish audio) for the little girl. It is very surprising how much french audio there is. That is so un useful. I also got a boxing workout DVD and a Cardio Salsa DVD. Eileen told me the girls like Hip Hop ones... But all I could see were Carmen Electra's strip tease workout, which I hardly think is appropriate, no matter how good a workout it is. My co volunteer was a really good basketball player in college, so I think she is kind of into working out. Which is good....
So I shall pack and hang out with the fam the next few, well 1.5 days....
